Montana State Nordic Skiers Have Best Race of Season

Five Bobcat skiers posted top ten finishes in the final day of the 2009 NCAA West Region/RMISA championships, Saturday afternoon at the Auburn Ski Club.
Anders Folleraas, Bernhard Roenning and Gunnar Kristiansen placed eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 15K freestyle. In all, the Bobcats posted 66 points, placing second among all men’s teams.
Folleraas posted a time of 36:42.7, while Roenning notched 36:43.2; and Kristiansen 36:43.6.
On the women’s side, Kaelin Kiesel finished ninth, covering the 10K course in 30:22.0. Senior Claire Rennie placed tenth with a clocking of 30:34.6. Rounding out MSU’s scoring was Mellie Park, who finished 12th in 30:53.7.
The Bobcat women’s contingent was the third best Nordic squad on Saturday. Combined, MSU notched 128 points in the freestyle, second only to UNM’s 137.
New Mexico captured the team title with 539 points. The Lobos were followed by Colorado 539, Nevada 485, Denver 483, Alaska-Anchorage 447, Utah 444, MSU 379, and Whitman 210.
MSU will take next week off before competing at the NCAA Championships in Maine.
