Results - MSU Invitational - Day Two

The Montana State ski team received strong outings from a pair of young racers who helped pace the Bobcats in the second day of its own MSU Invitational, Saturday at Big Sky and Bohart Ranch.

Tyler Reinking, a sophomore redshirt, led the MSU Nordic squad with his second top 10 finish of the meet. Reinking placed eighth in the men's 10-kilometer race covering the course in 25:39.66

New Mexico's Martin Kaas won the men's individual crown in 24:52.74.

Also recording points for the Bobcats were Ryan Scott, 12^th, 26:08.82 and Bernhard Roenning, 16^th, 26:34.88. Other MSU finishers included Drew Scott 18^th, Luke Bromley 24^th, Hans Nygren 25^th, and Tyler Wright 30^th.

Leading Montana State on the slopes was Mike Mackie, a freshman from Canada, who finished 10^th overall in the giant slalom with a two-run total of 1:45.4- good for 30 points.

Finishing second and third for the Bobcats were freshmen, Geoff Irwin, 28^th, 1:47.6; and Chris Barber, 30^th, 1:48.1

Also notching times for Montana State were Toby LaMar, 35^th, 1:50.2, Kris Shampeny, 37^th, 1:50.7, and Alex van Roon, 38^th, 1:51.2.

New Mexico's Petter Brenna won the giant slalom in 1:43.8.

In women's action, Rachelle Kanady paced the Nordic squad finishing 13^th overall covering the five-kilometer event in 14:53.10. She was followed by Kaelin Kiesel, 16^th, 14:58.02; Casey Kutz, 17^th, 14:59.71; Mellie Park, 19^th, 15:06.99; Liza Goodwin, 20^th, 15:13.44; Corrine Malcolm, 21^st, 15:18.28; and Bernie Nelson, 28^th, 16:41.43.

Denver's Antje Maempel won the women's freestyle race in 13:36.92.

In the women's giant slalom race, the Bobcats were led by Amy Lattimer, who finished 27^th with a two-run clocking of 1:53.1.

Lattimer was followed by Carmel McElroy, 29^th, 1:54.4; Ali Leighton, 31^st, 1:55.5; Terra Moran, 32^nd, 1:56.3; Taylor Verdun, 34^th, 1:59.5; and Megan Bacharach, 35^th, 2:08.2.

New Mexico's Malin Hemmingsson won the GS in 1:46.9.

Colorado increased its lead in the team race on Saturday with strong finishes in both the women's races. The Buffaloes have a two-day total of 691 points, and are followed by New Mexico 631, Denver 611, Utah 539, Alaska-Anchorage 526, MSU 463 and Nevada 445.

The MSU Invitational will conclude on Sunday with the men's and women's slalom races at Big Sky.
