The Montana State women's basketball team needed an overtime period to defeat its scout team in the annual Blue-Gold scrimmage, Saturday morning in Shroyer Gym.
The Bobcats outscored their opponent 12-5 in the extra stanza to notch a 91-84 victory.
Montana State's Lyndi Seidensticker converted three free throws with 1.7-seconds remaining to force the game into overtime.
MSU had five players in double-digit scoring, including redshirt-freshman Chelsea Banis, who came off the bench for a game-high 20 points- connecting on 10-of-11 from the field.
Also in double-figures were Seidensticker 17, Sarah Balian 16, Rachel Semansky 14 and Ashley Albert 12.
Junior Katie Bussey, who garnered all-Big Sky Conference accolades last winter, sat out the scrimmage with a wrist injury.
“Offensively, I really liked our balance,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We need to work on our decision making, but I was really pleased with our upperclassmen and the way they found Chelsea in the post.”
Balian, formerly Strand, paced Montana State under the glass with nine rebounds, while Seidensticker and Semansky added six and five boards, respectively.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 51 percent from the field and 47 percent from three-point range. MSU connected on 14 treys, including four apiece for Seidensticker and Strand.
The Bobcats committed 15 turnovers, with ten miscues coming in the first half.
“Obviously, at the point in the season defense will be our focus,” Binford said. “We need to take better care of the ball and step up our communication. We were losing sight of the ball, and that's where communicating with each other is crucial.
“I'm excited about our potential,” Binford said.
MSU will host Montana Tech in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
