The Montana State women's basketball team gave No. 12 UCLA all they could handle, before falling 54-44 to the Bruins, Sunday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion.
Montana State (2-7) pulled to within 46-40 with 4:08 left following a Lyndi Seidensticker three-pointer. UCLA (7-0) converted two consecutive layups to push its lead to ten points.
The Bobcats had three chances to reduce the deficit down the stretch as the Bruin missed the front end to three consecutive trips to the foul line. However, MSU couldn't convert.
“This weekend was very challenging for us in terms of taking care of the ball and executing in end-of-game situations,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “The positive we'll take away is holding the No. 12 team in the nation to 54 points.”
For the second consecutive contest, redshirt freshman Chelsea Banis (Fairfield) led MSU in scoring, posting a game-high 16 points, connecting on five-of-13 from the field and six-of-seven from the free throw line. In addition, she added seven rebounds.
Also contributing to the Bobcat attack was Katie Bussey with nine points and six assists. Senior Sarah Balian paced Montana State under the glass with a game-high nine rebounds.
UCLA was led by Rebekah Gardner with 14 points and four rebounds.
MSU will host Portland on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m., in Worthington Arena.
