The Montana State women’s tennis team completed its Oregon road trip sweeping Portland State, 7-0, to even its Big Sky Conference slate at 3-3, Sunday afternoon.
Montana State swept all three doubles spots for the first point of the match, and then captured all six singles matches to cruise to the victory.
Bobcat senior Laura Villegas led the way for MSU blanking PSU’s Caitlin Stocking at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Villegas also combined with Ali Griffin at No. 1 doubles where the tandem posted an 8-4 win.
“I was very pleased with the way we played against Portland State, especially with it being our third match of the weekend,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “The match against Portland State was the most important of the weekend, and the kids did a super job stepping up to the challenge and getting a Big Sky Conference road victory.”
Earlier in the weekend, MSU dropped consecutive 7-0 decisions to Portland and Oregon.
MSU next match will be April 16 when it hosts Northern Colorado.
