Montana State senior Jamie Thornton was named the recipient of the MSU women’s basketball team’s Bobcat Pride award, given to the player that best exemplifies the program on the court and in the classroom.
“Jamie is the epitome of what it means to be a student-athlete in our program,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “She has always put the team first and takes on every challenge with an optimistic attitude. Jamie has had an outstanding influence on our program.”
A four-year letterwinner, Thornton maintains a 3.96 grade-point average in mathematics and serves as president of the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC). In addition, she was a Montana State Award of Excellence Winner as one of the top 40 senior students on campus; served as team captain; and initiated the recycling program within the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
A native of Pullman, Wash., Thornton played in 20 games, including five starts. She missed 11 games following a preseason knee injury and ended the year averaging 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Thornton plans to remain at MSU next season to pursue a graduate degree in mathematics. In addition, she will help coach in the women’s basketball program.
