Pair of Montana Natives Elected Captains

Mike Person and Michael Rider became MSU's 2010 team captains on Saturday
After announced that the Bobcat football team overwhelmingly elected safety Michael Rider from Billings and offensive tackle Mike Person from Glendive to serve as team captains next fall, Rob Ash made it clear that it was a great way to send his team into the summer.
“The two captains were very popular choices and very good choices,” MSU's fourth-year head coach said. “This is a good sendoff to the spring and a good way to getting us thinking about the fall.”
Ash announced MSU's spring award winners, in addition to the 2010 captains, after Saturday's Sonny Holland Classic scrimmage, but most of the reaction was to the captains. “I think the team selected two awesome leaders,” Ash said. “Mike Person has grown so much since he's been in this program – physically, academically, personally. He's gone through a lot, and come out of it better. He is a tremendous kid. Michael Rider is a fabulous success story, from walk-on to team captain. He has made himself into a great player with an outstanding work ethic and a mentality that puts the team first all the time.”
Rider said the honor caps what has been a memorable career path. “This was a goal I set when I set foot on campus as a freshman,” Rider said. “It's really important because it comes from my teammates. It's the culmination of a lot of hard work.”
Person said that he was honored to serve as captain with Rider. “It couldn't be better than to have Mikey Rider as the other captain,” he said. “But it's not just about us, there are a lot of people that have to step up and lead. Hopefully we'll all be able to do that and lead us to a National Championship.”
