Montana State women's head golf coach Leslie Spalding counts herself very fortunate to have great friends like  legendary sports broadcaster Brent Musburger and his wife Arlene to call on to help raise funds for her golf program.
"They have been very supportive and are wonderful people," Spalding said. "This is the second year I've asked them to come, and they love to come here."
Spalding and her 19th Hole Club are sponsoring the all-day golf tournament and auction at Riverside Golf Club in Bozeman. The field includes 108 golfers.
"This fund raiser really helps our program," Spalding said. "It's so great to see all these people out here supporting the golf program. It really helps."
Spalding met the Musburgers when she was on the LPGA Tour at an event in Florida. Spalding and Musburger are both from Billings, so they struck up a friendship.
"We first met Leslie when she was golfing in a benefit for a hospital and we met through a mutual friend in Billings," Musburger said. "We've kept up with her over the years and visit and golf back and forth whenever we can."
Mursburger and his wife met while in school at Northwestern University where he was studying journalism. They began golfing about 25 years ago and have maintained two homes in Montana, where they spend part of each year.
Musburger shares an affinity for Montana with broadcasting partner coaching legend Bobby Knight, who has a well-known love of fly fishing and outdoor sports. The pair work regularly calling Big 12 and Big Ten men's basketball games for ESPN.
"We are great friends," Musburger said. "It took us a few games to get some chemistry going, but he is a guy people want to listen to. I'd like to think I've helped him some, but he is a very fascinating guy to work with. People want to listen to what he has to say."
Musburger has worked just about every sporting event there is from the Indianapolis 500 to the Little League World Series. When asked which one sporting event he would recommend that fans take in he said, "You have to go to a Super Bowl and experience everything that goes with that."
