Tyrrell Places Third in Regional for Trip to Nationals and New School Record

Montana State javelin thrower Emily Tyrrell became the first MSU track and field student-athlete to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Emily Tyrrell was second in the preliminary round going into the final round and ended up in third place with a throw of 170-9, a career best throw and a new MSU record. She broke her own school record of 166-1 set last season. The top 12 in the event advanced to the national meet.
Stacey Irvine tied for 19th in the pole vault with a leap of 13-1.5. The height qualified Irvine for the Canadian national meet this summer, but she fell short of qualifying the NCAA championships.
In the men's javelin, Willie Sullivan placed 40th throwing 183-4. Heather Haug placed 38th in the 1500 with a time of 4:33.74. The top 12 advanced to the national meet. Kris Schaffer placed 32nd in the shot put and Alli Jones placed 39th in the same event.
Matt Adams will run the men's steeple chase Friday. In addition, Pat Eckerson competes in the men's hammer and Kirstin Lee throws the discus. #Jessie Greany competes in the high jump on Saturday and Adams runs the 5000 as well.
