The Montana State volleyball team concluded play at the Indiana State-Drury Inn Classic with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23 win over ISU on Saturday night. The Bobcats went 2-1 in tournament action.
Earlier in the day, Montana State (5-2) dropped a 25-20, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19 decision to SIU Edwardsville.
Against Indiana State, the Bobcats were led by Rachelle Allen and Jodeen Rademacher with 15 and ten kills, respectively. Also contributing to the MSU attack was junior transfer Alex Penewell, who posted eight kills, a team-high .438 hitting percentage and a match-high five blocks.
MSU was paced defensively by Allen with 14 digs, while Meghan Albiston added 12 saves.
“It was good for us to bounce back and win against a strong, balanced team like ISU,” said MSU head coach Sara Schaub. “We still need to work on our overall consistency, but we had some great performances, especially from some of our younger kids.”
True freshman setter Mackenzi Campbell dished out 34 assists, while adding six digs and four kills. For her efforts, the native of Newport Beach, Calif., was named to the all-tournament team.
For the match, the Bobcats outhit the Sycamores .168 to .082.
Against SIUE, Montana State was led by true freshman Sarah Horton, who notched a season-best 11 kills, .478 attack mark and six digs.
Montana State will travel to Washington State next weekend to face the Cougars, Cal Poly and Idaho.
