MSU visits Vikings in battle of league-leaders
Montana State's first impressions of Portland State's newly-renovated JELD-WEN Stadium were positive.
"Very nice," said Bobcat coach Rob Ash of the 20,000-seat facility constructed primarily for the Portland Timbers Major League Soccer team. "The turf is nce. It's a fabulous venue."
Montana State owns a 16-9 series edge over the Vikings, 6-6 in the former Civic Stadium or PGE Park. MSU has won five straight against the Vikings.

The Bobcats will not be at full strength in Portland today. Right tackle Leo Davis was ruled out of playing on Thursday and did not travel. Junior guard Ben Tauanuu starts instead of Davis, with senior captain Alex Terrien moving from guard to tackle.
Other than Davis, the Bobcats' lineup is not affected by injury at the day's outset.

There isn't much more than a couple football fields' distance between JEN-WELD Stadium and Lincoln High's football stadium. Lincoln High is where Bobcat receiver Elvis Akpla and PSU quarterback Konnor Cavanaugh hooked up as an explosive prep pitch-and-catch tandem. Cavanaugh threw for more than 7,000 yards in his prep career. Akpla began his college career as a sprinter and walk-on football player at Oregon.

The high-powered Oregon Ducks may have played their game for the week on Thursday, but the team may have a presence in JELD-WEN Field Saturday. Several former teammates of Akpla, Bobcat defensive end John Laidet, and MSU graduate assistant coach Cody Kempt are expected to visit the Bobcat trio today. All three started at Oregon before transferring to MSU.
