Montana State seniors Lyndi Seidensticker and Sarah Balian opened Senior Weekend combining for 37 points and 18 rebounds to guide the Bobcats to a 70-56 win over Eastern Washington, Thursday night in Worthington Arena.
Seidensticker jump started Montana State's (16-11, 10-3) first half connecting on three 3-pointers in the first three-minutes, 18-seconds and finished the opening stanza with 12 points.
The Bobcats closed out the first period on an 11-1 run in the final 3:36 to take a 40-30 advantage at intermission.
“We had great senior leadership,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Lyndi and Sarah made it a priority to be at their best.”
MSU built its largest lead with 13:06 remaining in the second half on a pair of Katie Bussey free throws to push the margin to 54-36. Eastern Washington (11-15, 7-6) closed to within eight points at the 4:06 mark but would get no closer as the Bobcats closed out the game converting six-of-eight from the free throw line in the final two-minutes.
“I was really proud of our defensive effort,” Binford said. “Eastern Washington is a tough team to defend.”
For the game, Montana State shot 40 percent from the field, while holding Eastern Washington to 28 percent from the floor, including 22 percent in the second stanza.
Seidensticker finished with a game-high 19 points, while Balian added 18, Rachel Semansky 12 and Ausha Cole 11.
Semansky recorded her sixth double-double of the season with a team-high ten rebounds. MSU finished with a 51-40 rebound advantage. Seidensticker and Balian also contributed under the glass with nine rebounds, apiece.
Bussey, MSU's leading scorer, was held to a season-low four points, but dished out a career-matching seven assists.
“Katie really showed her maturity,” Binford said. “She did a nice job of getting others involved.”
With the victory, the Bobcats move back into a first place tie with Northern Colorado atop the Big Sky standings.
EWU was led in the loss by Brianne Ryan with 14 points and seven assists.
