Looking back on Saturday's Blue/Gold scrimmage, eighth-year Montana State head women's basketball coach Tricia Binford was pleased with her team's performance, but noted there is certainly room for improvement.
Sophomore Kalli Durham paced the Gold team to a 55-51 win over the Blue squad with a game-high 15 points, including a three-of-four effort from long distance. Also hitting double-figures were newcomers Peyton Ferris and Lindsey Stockton with 13 and ten points, respectively.
“Early in the season you expect a lot of turnovers, and that's what we had,” Binford said. “I thought our energy was good. We now have a great base to start from.
“Offensively, we had good balance, and that's a point of emphasis,” Binford said. “Our newcomers gave us some good production. I think we were pretty anxious, which caused some turnovers, but that can be fixed.”
Ferris, a freshman from Twin Bridges, led the Gold squad with a team-high eight rebounds, while also chipping in four steals and two assists. Stockton, a freshman from Spokane, Wash., recorded three assists and two steals.
The Blue team was paced by a pair of upperclassmen as Rachel Semansky and Jackie Elliott each notched 12 points. Semansky, along with freshman Margreet Barhoum led their team with eight rebounds, apiece. Barhoum, a native of Edmonds, Wash., also posted a team-high four steals.
The Bobcats will open the 2012-13 season when it hosts Montana Tech in an exhibition game on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
