Schreibeis wins second straight honor, Perez first of career
Caleb Schreibeis and Rory Perez sent Montana State into the post-season in style Monday, earning ROOT Sports Big Sky Conference Football Player of the Week honors for their efforts in the final weekend of the 2012 regular season.
Schreibies, a senior from Billings, saved possibly his best game for his last regular season contest, racking up a career-high 16 tackles in Montana State's 16-7 win over Montana. Schreibeis broke up two passes Saturday, each on third-and-five plays with the Grizzlies in Bobcat territory, along with 1.5 tackles-for-loss. The senior Buck Buchanan Award nominee extended his string of recording at least one sack in every game this season late in the fourth quarter. Schreibeis now has 14.5 tackles-for-loss this season, including 12 sacks, and has forced an FCS-high seven fumbles. Schreibeis also won the league's weekly award last week.
A first-time honoree, Perez had a monumental impact on Saturday's contest. The junior from Moreno Valley, Calif., booted three field goals, and in fact his two second half kicks marked the only scoring after the intermission. Perez also averaged 43.3 yards on nine punts, with four of those pinning Montana inside its own 20-yard line. With 2:32 to play, Perez nailed a 57-yard punt to the UM four-yard line, and after a three-and-out possession MSU held the ball for seven minutes and Perez nailed a 22-yard field goal to seal MSU's win.
Montana State earned the third seed and a first-round bye in this season's FCS Playoffs. The Bobcats host either Villanova or Stony Brook on December 1. Bobcat season ticket-holders may purchase tickets this week (the Bobcat Ticket Office is closed Thursday through Sunday for Thanksgiving), with tickets available to the general public beginning Monday, Nov. 26, to Friday, Nov. 30, from 9 am to 6 pm.
