Cal State Fullerton uses big first-half run to top Bobcats
Cal State Fullerton used a 23-2 run late in the first half to seize control of the game, then cruised to an 80-66 win over Montana State Saturday night in Fullerton, Calif.
The Bobcats played with host CSF for the first 10 minutes of the game, and drew to within two on Shawn Reid's three-pointer at 9:19 of the first half. Sedric Martin responded with a short jumper for the Titans to score the first of 10 straight points and key Fullerton's long run. The Bobcats missed six straight field goals and turned the ball over four times in that stretch, which was interrupted only by a pair of Mike Dison free throws.
While the Bobcats struggled shooting before halftime, Fullerton filled it up. The Titans shot 16-for-26 in the first half, 61.5%, to MSU's 34.8%. Cal State Fullerton stayed hot throughout the evening, finishing at 57.7%.
Isiah Umipig led all players with 24 points, while three Titan teammates broke double digits – Orane Chin with 14, and Kwame Vaughn and Sedric Martin with 13 each. Shawn Reid led the Bobcats with 20 points, raising his total in the last four games to 85 points. Tre Johnson scored 14 points with two blocked shots, while Mohamed Fall added 10 points and a block.
In dropping their seventh straight game, the Bobcats fall to 11-15 on the season. Cal State Fullerton wins its fifth straight, and is now 18-7.
