MSU’s Hagensen Earns RMISA Coach of the Year Honors

Montana State’s Grethe Hagensen was named the 2012 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Nordic Coach of the Year for helping guide the Bobcats to a fourth place showing at the RMISA Championships and a seventh place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships in March.

At the RIMSA/NCAA West Region Championships in February, the MSU men's Nordic team finished second overall, while the women captured third. The Bobcats were just one of three teams to post over 300 points, including the men's squad that won the overall freestyle event.
As part of the NCAA Championships, the Bobcat Nordic contingent finished fourth overall with the MSU men's team placing runner-up, just one point behind Utah. Under Hagensen's tutelage, Montana State garnered four All-America accolades.
“We had a phenomenal season,” Hagensen said. “It was one for the record books. With the emergence of David Norris on the national stage and the solid leadership of Tyler Reinking and Michael Schallinger, along with Ase Carlson, Casey Kutz and Jessica Yeaton on the women's side, everything seemed to fall into place.
“I'm also extremely pleased with the development of our younger kids, and know that they will play a vital role in the future of the program,” Hagensen said.
Hagensen's Nordic group also excelled off the ski hill, earning six Montana State Athletic Department honors, including Best Individual Performance by a Male: David Norris; Best Performance by a Men's Team: Nordic Ski at NCAA meet; Best Season by a Men's Team; Best Academic Team Performance; Most Improved in Community Volunteer Hours: Nordic and Alpine Ski Teams; and the Ginny Hunt Award for Women's Academic and Athletic Excellence: Ase Carlson.
