Montana State women’s basketball coach Tricia Binford has signed a new three-year contract, pending Montana Board of Regents approval.
Montana State women's basketball coach Tricia Binford has signed a new three-year contract, pending Montana Board of Regents approval.
Binford will begin her eighth year with the Bobcats this season.
“Coach Binford has done a terrific job with the women's basketball program and I look forward to working with her and the continued success and growth of the program,” said MSU Athletics Director Peter Fields. “The women's basketball program is committed to excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”
Binford is MSU's longest tenured coach as well as its winningest in its women's basketball history. Last winter, she pushed her career win total to 103 victories, which ranks first on MSU's all-time coaching ladder. Binford's squads have played for the Big Sky title twice in the last five seasons and have made six straight postseason appearances.
In the classroom, the Bobcats have been ranked among the top 12 academic teams in the nation at the NCAA Division I level in five of the last six years. And, within the community, the MSU women's program gave over 300+ hours of service during 2011-12.
“I feel extremely blessed by the support my family has received from the community, university and administration,” Binford said. “This kind of support, including my strong staff and the student-athletes we bring in to MSU continues to motivate me every day. We will continue to graduate strong, student-athletes who possess great character, and we will take the next steps toward winning championships on the court, as well.”
In her seven years in the Gallatin Valley, Binford has produced a whopping 58 Big Sky Conference All-Academic honorees; 18 Big Sky Conference Players of the Week; 14 All-Big Sky Conference performers; one academic All America; four CoSIDA Academic All District VII recipients; two Big Sky Conference Defensive Players of the Year; one Big Sky Newcomer of the Year; one Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year; and most recently her first All America Honorable Mention in Katie Bussey.
