Third round drops Bobcats from top spot
Montana State closed out the Bobcat Invitational with a fourth place team finish on Tuesday. Two years ago, Montana State placed second at the Bobcat Invitational at Riverside Country Club (6,299 yards; par 71).
Montana took the team title home after they won in a sudden-death playoff with Utah Valley. The Grizzlies finished with 913 (306-303-304).
Paige Crawford finished as Montana State's highest finisher, closing out in third place. Crawford was in first place after two rounds, including a second round bogey on Monday. She finished with a combined score of 222 (73-72-77), nine strokes over. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native was the only Bobcat among the top-ten finishers.
Montana's Olivia Weber was the medalist of the tournament at 216 (74-73-72). Southern Utah's Sadie Palmer came in second, carding 220 (73-74-73).
Molly Dorans was MSU's next highest finisher, coming in 12th with 234 (78-75-81). Freshman Kati Greear, in her collegiate debut, opened her career with a top-20 finish, coming in 15th, scoring 236 (76-78-82). Also in her first collegiate tournament, Bozeman native Lauren Hausauer ended in 23rd after carding a 241 (82-77-82). Kelly O'Brien rounded out the scoring Bobcats in 36th place.
“We put ourselves in a position to win a tournament which we've never done,” said Coach Basye. “It's hard to stay at the top all three days but I am still super proud of our overall performance. Moving forward, I not only expect to be in this position again but we also need to learn to handle our emotions better on the course.”
The 'Cats will return to the links Sept. 24-25, when they travel to Pullman, Wash. for the Cougar Cup at Palouse Golf Club.
