MSU men's basketball team debuts in public with good showing
Montana State men's basketball coach Brad Huse knows there is a lot of work ahead of his 2013-14 Bobcats, but liked what he saw during the team's annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage in Worthington Arena Thursday.
Senior guard Antonio Biglow scored a scrimmage-high 18 points while sophomore forward Danny Robison added 17 in the team's 32-minute scrimmage. Junior forward Eric Norman, who transferred from SMU before last season, grabbed 10 rebounds to lead all players, adding 13 points.
"I thought the guys played well together," Huse said. "They shared the basketball well. We have a lot of work to do with the timing and execution of the offense, but I thought they competed well together."
The team shot 43-for-77 as a unit, dishing out 29 assists to only 16 turnovers. The three-man guard rotation of Biglow, Marcus Colbert and Michael Dison combined for 18 assist, seven turnovers and three steals. The Bobcats played Thursday without injured inside players Flavien Davis and Paul Egwuonwu.
Huse said Thursday's session provides a starting point. "We'll go back and evaluate how we played and look at effort t and look at how well we went to the glass. Fans look at the final (moments) of a play, whether or not you score, but we're concentrating right now on a lot of other areas."
Huse said his team's willingness to work together, which he liked Thursday, will be a key to his team's success. "It's all predicated on our guys' ability to share the basketball," he said. "I saw some good moments (in that area on Thursday.)"
MSU plays its exhibition game against Dickinson State on November 3 in Bozeman at 2 pm before opening the season on Nov. 9 against Cal State Fullerton in Bozeman.
