Top-Ranked Kentucky Topples Bobcats in Rupp Arena

MSU holds Wildcats below 50% shooting in each half
Top-ranked Kentucky held Montana State scoreless for the first 10:24 of the second half and limited MSU to 19.7% shooting, boosting the Wildcats to an 86-28 win in Lexington on Sunday.

"That's the best team I've ever seen on tape in 25 years," said Bobcat coach Brian Fish, "and (in person) they are really, really good. Coach Cal (UK head coach John Calipari) said that's the second-best game they've played (this year) after Kansas. I think they missed some shots early, and it made them mad."

Kentucky did miss shots early, as the Cats scrapped on defense to limit UK to 37.5% shooting in the first half. The Wildcats managed just 43.3% for the game, and only Aaron Harrison (14 points), Devin Booker (18) and Dakari Johnson (13) scored in double-digits for the home team.

"I thought (the Bobcats) did a really good job defensively early on, and then when we started missing a lot of shots (Kentucky) started exposing us defensively. When you shoot 18, 19 percent it wears you down."

The Bobcats led at 2-1 and trailed just 4-2 five minutes into the game. After MSU pulled within 9-4 at the 12:17 mark of the first half, Kentucky stretched the lead with an 11-0 run and never looked back.

Joey Frenchwood led the Cats with seven points on the evening, and Marcus Colbert added six. MSU falls to 0-4 on the season, while Kentucky raises its record to 5-0. The Bobcats make their 2014 home debut Friday night, hosting Texas-Arlington at 7 pm.

"We need the home crowd," Fish said of Friday's contest. "We need some people cheering for us, and we want to earn their cheers."
