Cristian Soratos ran a 3:55.47 unconverted mile at the Washington Husky Invitational on Saturday afternoon, turning heads across the country. As a result, the senior was awarded the male track athlete of the week honor from the Big Sky Conference for the fourth time this season.
Soratos' unconverted mile time leads the nation by almost two whole seconds and broke the MSU record for the fastest unconverted mile. His time ranks second all-time in the Big Sky rankings, trailing Montana State's Patrick Casey's time of 3:54.59 set in 2011.
The Salinas, Calif. native has automatically qualified for Big Sky Conference championships the 800, mile and 3000. Soratos and the rest of the Bobcats will compete in their final home meet of the season on Friday, as they host Carroll College and Montana in the Bobcat Open. This is the final chance to qualify for the conference championships that will take place February 26-28 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
