Bobcats dole out outdoor season honors
Youth and Treasure State roots were served Tuesday, when the Montana State track and field squad handed out its annual team awards.
Student-athletes with at least one season of eligibility remaining claimed 10 of the 12 awards doled out by the Bobcat coaching staff, and seven award winners came to MSU from Montana high schools. Those are two key points of emphasis of the Bobcat program, MSU coach Dale Kennedy said. "This has been a developmental program that has always thrived on kids from Montana and the surrounding states," he said. "We didn't have as much team success as we wanted this season, but it was a year that really strengthened our foundation."
A pair of sophomores led the MSU men's and women's teams in points scored. Thrower Kyle Douglass from Missoula paced the men's squad with 119 points during the outdoor season, while Amanda Jaynes scored 93.5 points to lead the Bobcat women. Douglass was also the men's team's Top Field Event Performer and Most Improved, while Jaynes was one of three to share Top Women's Track Performers and also earned Most Improved honors.
Two athletes from the women's team also earned multiple awards. Danielle Rider shared Top Field Events Performer and Most Improved honors, while Layne Oliver was lauded as one of three Most Improved athletes while also taking the Best Teammate award. Montana State honored 11 letterwinners this spring on the women's team, 11 on the men's.
