Bobcats Wrap Up Play at ITA Mountain Regional

Bean, from Montreal, Quebec, won two matches in qualifying play to work her way into the main draw.
Montana State junior Angel Bean captured three singles victories at the ITA Mountain Regional Tennis Championships which began on Tuesday and finished Thursday for the Bobcats at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Bean, from Montreal, Quebec, won two matches in qualifying play to work her way into the main draw. In the opening round, she defeated former Bobcat standout Hudson Hawkins 7-5, 6-4. Hawkins transferred to UNLV during the offseason. In the round of 32, Bean dispatched Alba Martinez of Air Force 6-0, 6-2.
Playing in the main draw, Bean downed AFA's Sofia Mavor 7-5, 6-2 before falling to Utah's Emmie Moore 6-1, 7-5 in the round of 32.
"ITA regionals is always a great opportunity to play against the best competition in the region, and I'm very proud of the way our team competed throughout the whole tournament," said MSU first-year head coach Hailey Barrett. "Angel won a couple of very tough matches in the qualifying draw to play her way into the main draw. She then played a very competitive match against one of the best players in the region."
Also getting a win in qualifying action was Kavya Khirwar, who posted a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Weber State's Aleksandra Bozinovska. Lola Bean, younger sister of Angel, recorded a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Utah State's Olivia Halvorsen in extra match play.
"We will take the next few weeks to get back to work and prepare for our final tournament of the fall season in Spokane," Barrett said.
MSU concludes its fall tournament play at the Gonzaga Invitational, Oct. 31 – Nov. 2.
